I had used some sync software in past, from my exprience i suggest to use either gs richcopy or robocopy or good sync. They are best tool for file sync, gs richcopy have extra features and more reliable. When I open a sub-folder, I want to see the data contained therein.

The primary folder and subfolders including all files are synchronized.
Most of the programs in the article will do this. I use synchredible. I have 2 different profiles that use recursive sync. The 1st synchronizes from my main drive to a second drive installed in my computer once a day automatically on a schedule. The second profile automatically starts a sync whenever I plug in my external USB backup hard drive. I do this about once a week. Other programs probably have these features, but I can only speak for synchredible for sure.
